Muah Chee – Glutinous Asian desert
So whenever we cook asian, we always need to be very creative when it comes down to making dessert. Apart from the green tea ice or sesame ice cream, tapioca pearls type of dessert or fresh fruit you want to have something original every now and then. I don’t know weather its Chinese or Singaporian or Malay but what I can tell you: it will rock your world. Its perfect for having tea or coffee afterwards.
Muah Chee – Glutinous rice desert covered in a peanut sugar coating
65gr (1/2 cup) of glutinous rice flower
pinch of salt
1 TBsp of Coconut cream or thick coconut milk
1 tsp of sugar
1 TBsp of fragrant oil (oil fried with shallots)
80 ml of warm water
For the peanut coating
40 gr (1/4 cup) of roasted peanuts
25 gr (1/8 cup) of brown sugar
1 tsp of toasted sesame seeds
In a pan, heat oil and fry some shallots until golden brown. Remove the shallots and keep the oil. Set aside.
In a bowl mix in all ingredients to make the glutinous rice. Slowly add in the water and stir at the same time.
Now pop the bowl in to the microwave on high heat and after 30 seconds stir and microwave for another 30 seconds. Stir again and microwave for another minute. When done, drizzle the shallot oil and let it cool until you can handle it. Try to cut it while its still warm.
Toast the sesame seeds and set aside.
In a mortar, add in you roasted peanuts and sugar and very fine crumbs. Depends on your liking.
Now with a pair of scissors cut up the glutinous rice into smaller pieces and dip in the peanut sugar mixture.
I serve it on a plate with the rest of the sugar/peanut mixture and sprinkle the sesame seeds on top.
I am so curious to find out if you guys like it too! To vary I think a drop of pandan essence would make a briljant combination too.
