Valentines Maizena cookies
Valentines day is around the corner and I thought I’d share a classic Surinamese recipe: Maizena cookies. So for Valentines day, I thought I’d give them a little twist. This is a cookie you’ll mostly get when going to a Surinamese birthday party. Luckily these days, they are also being sold at almost every Toko here in the Netherlands. But from now on, you can make your own. Let me warn you, once you’ve baked them, let them cool off and be careful you don’t eat them all at once. These are addictive. Oh and these cookies are perfect for when you have a gluten allergy.
Recipe Maizena cookies
125 gr of butter
125 gr of sugar
265gr of Cornstarch (maizena)
Make sure you cream your butter with a mixer and add sugar to it. Make sure your sugar has dissolved completely after about 5 minutes.
Add in the egg and a few drops of vanilla extract.
You can now add in the cornstarch. Don’t add it all at once, but make sure your cornstarch has completely dissolved before adding the next portion. Do this either by hand or on the lowest mixing speed to avoid the cornstarch going all places.
You want your dough to be nice and soft and moldable.
Grease your baking tray.
Traditionally we make little balls out of the dough, flatten them with a fork and sprinkle disco dip. This time I used a heart shaped cookie cutter to give them that Valentines love.
Bake the cookies golden for about 30 minutes on 150 °C.
