I had the best dessert the other day at my sisters, who cooked us a meal before heading out on adventure to China. You can follow her on her blog called The Fake Asian on vacation. Niw’s it got me thinking as I wanted to create a cute little dessert for Valentines. Who doesn’t love a nice Asian desserts every now and then? Especially if your going to make a spicy Asian dinner, its nice to cool it off with some creamy coconut.

The recipe I am sharing with you today is a SAGO based dessert. Very popular in Asia, but now bringing it to your homes too. Don’t be scared, its super easy and you can go wild on varying with different ingredients. This time I chose palm seeds and jack fruit in a nice coconut milk topped off with some palm sugar syrup.

Sago pearls dessert

Ingredients
Sago pearls, about 150 gr
Aroy D coconut milk, 250ml
1 Can of Aroy D Palm Seeds and Jack Fruit
Gula Kelapa, palm sugar syrup

Method
Bring a pan with enough water to boil.
Add in the sago pearls and boil for 10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent the sago from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
Turn off the heat and put a lid on the pan. At this point, you’ll still see some white dots.
Let it sit for another 10 minutes. The sago should look translucent and starchy.
Using a sieve, strain sago over cold running water, while stirring to remove excess starch.
I just put them in a bowl and let it set in the refrigerator for a few hours. You can also add them to special moulds if desired.
All of the above steps can be done ahead. The longer the pearls are cooling, the nicer when serving.
Whenever your ready to make your dessert, remove from refrigerator and put in bowls.
As the palm seeds and the jack fruit are already cut, you just add them to the bowls and drizzle some palm sugar syrup on top.

Your now ready to dig in. Hope you enjoy your valentines day!
