Ku Kitchen & Bar // Do you guys know Ku Kitchen & Bar? They are pretty new in the Utrechtsestraat in Amsterdam. A street known for its nice shops and good restaurants like Bakkerij Kuyt, Take Thai, Bar Moustache, We are labels, Pata Negra and much more. So when I heard I was invited to come and have lunch at the KU kitchen & Bar, I got super exited. I love asian food and they even match it with perfect cocktails, I couldn’t wait and immediately looked up their rating on IENS and got even more exited.
So Kelly from Goodfoodlove and I went together and we got welcomed with a wonderful Mocktail made with strawberries and mango. Delish! I spotted the big green egg and was super super exited to taste food coming from this bbq. Slowly but surely the room filled up with more foodies and bloggers and fashionistas. It was so nice to meet Sesanne from the Lion Kitchen, Anne Ruth from Kookmeisje and Michelle from Story154. We sat down and were welcomed by the chef Dirk who told us he would be serving us a 9! course lunch menu!
What a food life I’d say 😉 My absolute favorites: the Dashi soup (although it did not smell too strong, it had a very intense flavor), the King Ku Burger (a nice burger patty grilled on the big green egg accompanied by Japanese mayonnaise with pickles and some cabbage) served with some louts root chips <<WOW>>, Avocado and cashew sushi and the Spicy shrimp salad (lollo rosso salad topped with some grilled shrimps, edamame and a special Yuzu sauce). I am so glad we got a little tube of the sauce in our goodie bag, so I will try to reproduce the salad, although that Big Green Egg is quite substantial I think. I’d say, to be continued.
Apart from all that eating, we got explained about the different types of Sake and then all of the sudden we were talking cocktails. Not sake, not caipirinha, but a SAKErinha: a nice blend of both, instead of the traditional cachaca rum they use Sake (Akashika; sake in a cute little bambi cup) and combine it with crushed ice, sugar, strawberries and lime. I ended the lunch with a cup of Japanese grean tea and a chocolate bonbon filled up with figs and a ginger ganache.
In a nutshell we got spoiled with good food and drinks by Ku Kitchen, Claire and Bernou. Thanks a lot for the invitation and till next time. I will be back!
Are you guys craving their food and now going there too? Oh and by the way, they also deliver!
